My name is James Romano; I've been in the game dev industry since 1999 and am currently working at Amaze Entertainment in Kirkland, Washington as a 3D Artist. Originally from Texas, I attended school at the Art Institute of Dallas; then scored my first gig at Paradigm Entertainment, where I began to learn the ropes of the game development process, until moving up to Seattle in search of more work and cooler temperatures. I've been here for almost 7 years now; making friends, enjoying the weather, seeing the country side and working on the film in my spare time.

Below is a collection of artwork from the past few years, from work, school and spare time projects. In the Animatics section at the bottom of the page, you will find a variety of animations that range from small test-case renders, to full production quality clips that were used for more lucrative purposes.

The new Amaze Entertainment logo I recently created for one of the games about to be released. This is a single, isolated bat used in the Amaze logo sequence. This was my first BIG project for school. Actually it was for my portfolio class created for the purpose of passing, but later adopted into my demo reel as one of the brightest pieces. It's a composited animation on top of some video footage I shot out in the parking lot of the Art Institute, and took me roughly 5 weeks to complete. The 3D software used for this one was 3D Studio Max, believe it or not. This was a doodle that I created from character sketches done in a character class that I took. I later adopted this one into my demo reel as well. This is a total mess around animation I made as a test to see how many special effects I could cram in before killing my computer. It didn't take much in those days. The Jupiter logo was created for Touchdown Entertainment (LithTech) while I was working there as a technical artist, to be used as marketing material as well as the main splash screen for all games utilizing the Jupiter Engine.
This was a mockup sequence done to showcase my super cheap and efficient water effects for the PSP game 'Madagascar' that we never even got to start on. Same here, another mockup of some cheapy water effects to be used on the PSP. Here we have a doodle I created after watching the Hulk and wondering how they did the sequence where he is in the water tank as Bruce Banner, then swells to the Hulk size and busts out from the holding tank, covered in water and slinging it off everywhere. -
